Batting gloves are necessary equipment for some, while others choose not to use them. Batting gloves therefore are a players choice piece of equipment. The purpose of batting gloves is to offer improved grip while helping to minimize the sting of the bat when hitting. Batting gloves will also offer protection against skin abrasions while running the bases when sliding. Many players also like to wear a batting glove inside their fielding glove to give a better grip and control hand sweating inside the mitt. On this page, I have listed six of the best batting gloves for 11-14 year old players.
Size: When choosing the proper size batting glove for your player, simply measure the hand from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger (as shown) on their dominant hand. As an example, if your child’s hand measures 6.75-inches, you would choose a men’s SMALL or a youth XL. which is the same size glove. Smaller than a 6.75″ hand would require youth sizes, larger than a 6.75″ hand would require adult size gloves.

Material: There are typically 2 materials used for the batting gloves, leather and synthetic. I would recommend sticking to synthetic as they are more flexible, will stretch and are much easier to clean. While leather may give a better grip, they are more rigid and do not stretch. Some manufactures offer a glove that offers synthetic fingers and a leather palm. These gloves would be considered ideal.
Fit: You will want the batting glove to be snug but not so tight that it restricts movement of the fingers or hand. Loose gloves will result in the hand slipping when holding the bat, so it’s important not to purchase a glove your player can “grow in to”.
