To protect players from foot an ankle injuries, players of all ages wear cleats to provide proper traction, avoid slipping, give superior foot and ankle support and to aid in quick directional change. A properly fitted cleat will greatly reduce the chance of injury.
There are 3 different styles of cleats available to choose from: low top, mid top and high top. Low and mid top shoes are lighter weight and offer better maneuverability. A high top cleat will offer far better ankle support. If your player has suffered an ankle or foot injury previously, a high top cleat is likely the best choice. Another important feature when looking at cleats is a reinforced toe. This protects the toe of the shoe from scuffing and damage. Most of all, you should choose the style and type of cleat that is most comfortable.
While cleats are a vital piece of safety equipment, this will likely be a short-term purchase as shoe size changes rapidly at this age. All the cleats I have listed provide excellent support and good value. I have compared all the major baseball equipment sellers to find the best prices on these cleats. Below you will find seven of the most popular and highly rated models. I regularly check the pricing of all items listed on this page and update them accordingly. When I find better value with a different seller, I will change my listing to reflect the best value found today. I continually do comparisons, so you don’t have to!
All cleats for this age group are made of rubber, metal cleats are not recommended and in almost all cases, are not allowed. Ask your coach or league administrator if you have any questions regarding what type of cleat is required.
Keep in mind when purchasing cleats you want a snug fit. When your player is in between sizes, opt for the smaller size. A loose shoe can lead to foot or ankle injury. Snug fitting shoes will stretch when worn, so don’t be afraid to purchase a shoe that seems a little snug. You do not want to buy a shoe that is too small, be mindful of the difference between snug and too small. Remember, we’re only trying to get one season out of these cleats so buy accordingly. I have listed cleats in all price categories so there should be something here that will meet nearly everyone’s needs.
There is a cleat size chart at the bottom of this page which should be used as a guideline only
